Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
Patients are at high risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) when their kidneys experience interruption of blood flow or other serious insults. About 2 million people die yearly as a consequence of AKI. Our group of scientists has shown that infusion of adipose stem cells into the blood vessels near the kidneys of test rodents can improve the rate of their return to normal, and importantly can actually decrease mortality of AKI. We hope to find resources to bring similar approaches to patients.
